Advanced AERMOD is Providence/Oris Training’s “graduate-level” course in air modeling for industrial permitting and other regulatory applications. This course is in response to requests from our past students and our BEEST users who want advanced training.

SO2, NO2 and PM2.5.  How to model for the new US EPA NAAQS standards: 1-hour SO2, 1-hour NO2 and 24-hour PM2.5. The importance of background concentrations and where to get them and how to analyze them. We will discuss new averaging routines that EPA has added to AERMOD for the new standards and new output files that help analyze results.

Met Data Processing.  Students will learn how to process met data, including downloading hourly surface data, upper air data and 1-minute surface data. Students will process data using AERMET, AERMINUTE and AERSURFACE. We will discuss surface characteristics and representativeness of data. Exercises will include diagnosing and correcting processing errors and incorporating onsite data. EPA data requirements and acceptability will be covered.

Other Advanced Topics.  SIL and cumulative analysis for the new standards. OLM and PVMRM for NO2 modeling. MAXDCONT output files for significant impacts. BEEST features like automatically defining domain limits and downloading NED files.

Exercises.  This is truly a hands-on course. We will do six exercises, including using Google Earth.
